Best gravel bike pedals 2026
Gravel bike pedals are essentially pedals that are better adapted to off-road riding than road bike pedals.
While road pedals use a larger three bolt cleat attached to a smooth-soled road cycling shoe and are designed for power transfer, gravel pedals need to work with gravel shoes with lugged soles, so that the user can move effectively off the bike when conditions become too tricky to ride. At the same time, a gravel pedal needs to ensure adequate foot stability and power transmission, as well as deal with mud and other debris that’s not typically encountered when riding on the road.
Gravel pedals use the same small metal two-bolt cleat as used for clipped-in MTB pedals – indeed many pedals share MTB and gravel duties. But there’s a growing number of pedals designed specifically for gravel use, which we highlight in this guide to the best gravel bike pedals. We’ve also included a couple of gravel power meter pedal options and, lower down, we tell you how to choose gravel bike pedals.

The best gravel bike pedals
Crankbrothers Eggbeater

From £60 | Buy here
- Weight: 290g/pair (Eggbeater 1)
- Float: 0°/6°
- Release angle: 10°/15°/20°
The Crankbrothers Eggbeater is the most minimalist pedal design out there, relying on the contact between the shoe’s lugs and the pedal spindle for stability. There are four points of engagement, so clipping in can be faster, although in our experience, since the action to clip in depends on the binding direction it can be more awkward than a dual-sided pedal.
There are plenty of options, from the most basic Eggbeater 1 to the titanium Eggbeater 11, which has a 179g-a-pair claimed weight. The Eggbeaters score for their mud-shedding ability, which makes them a good option for cyclocross or muddy hike-a-bike, although the shoe stability suffers a little from the skeleton design.
Crankbrothers Candy

From £60 | Buy here
- Weight: 294g/pair (Candy 1)
- Float: 0°/6°
- Release angle: 10°/15°/20°
The Crankbrothers Candy adds a cage to the same release mechanism as used in the Eggbeater, adding extra foot stability. As with the Eggbeater, there’s a range of spec options including the titanium Candy 11, plus multiple cage colours for all except the Candy 11.
Crankbrothers uses its own cleats that are incompatible with other gravel pedals. It sells these with zero and 6° float, as well as easy release and standard options. Swap the standard cleat between shoes and you can choose either 15° or 20° release angle.
Favero Assioma Pro MX

From £400 | Buy here
- Weight: 391g/pair
- Float: 4°
- Release angle: 13°
